WATFORD CITY, N.D. — Two passengers died in a crash Sunday morning, Sept. 28, south of Watford City, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., a 2013 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Highway 85, nearing the intersection with 23rd Street Northwest. Simultaneously, a 2006 Peterbilt truck, pulling a trailer, was eastbound on 23rd Street Northwest.
Authorities reported that the Peterbilt disregarded a posted stop sign and collided with the passenger side of the Ford Fusion in a T-bone accident, sending both vehicles into the southeast ditch. The front-seat passenger, a 25-year-old woman, and the rear-seat passenger, a 5-year-old girl, both from Watford City, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old man from Watford City, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Bismarck.
The driver of the Peterbilt, a 41-year-old man from Bybee, Tennessee, was unharmed. All occupants in the involved vehicles were reported to be wearing seat belts.
According to the patrol, potential charges against both drivers are currently under investigation.
