22-Year-Old Maine Man Killed in Car Crash into Tree in Mansfield, Connecticut.

MANSFIELD, CT — A UConn senior died in a crash on Hunting Lodge Road early Tuesday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.

At approximately 12:21 a.m., 22-year-old Zachary Barry, of Scarborough, Maine, was traveling westbound when he crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a tree. Barry was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was at 2:43 a.m.

Barry was a plant science major focusing on turfgrass science, having joined the UConn community in fall 2022. He was a member of the UConn men's track and field team and actively participated in the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. Over the summer, he interned at Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, honing skills in course conditioning and turf health management.

UConn Dean of Students Fany DeJesús Hannon expressed condolences, stating, “Our deepest condolences go out to Zachary's family and friends during this difficult time.” Condolences can be directed to the Dean of Students Office at 233 Glenbrook Road, Unit 4062, Storrs.
