HONOLULU (Island News) – A traffic collision on Oahu's H1 Freeway early Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality.
The incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. in the Airport area. Authorities said a 23-year-old man, riding a motorcycle westbound, lost control and rear-ended a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old man.
The motorcyclist was ejected and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the second vehicle sustained injuries and is in serious condition, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Police are investigating the crash, with speed believed to be a contributing factor; however, it remains unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved.
This incident marks Oahu's 29th traffic fatality this year, significantly lower than the 63 reported at this time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
