KAUAI, Hawaii (Local News Wire) – A teenager was hospitalized with critical injuries following a three-vehicle collision on Monday morning at about 7 a.m. near the intersection of Kaumuali'i Highway and Oma'o Road.
According to authorities, the incident began when a 2000 Toyota sedan attempted to turn left from Oma'o Road onto the highway. A vehicle in the outer eastbound lane stopped to allow the sedan to complete the turn. Meanwhile, a 1995 Toyota truck traveling in the inner eastbound lane collided with the front of the sedan.
The impact caused the truck to lose control and enter the westbound lane, where it was subsequently struck by a 2020 Toyota truck. The driver of the 1995 Toyota truck, a teenager, was taken to Wilcox Medical Center and later airlifted to Queens Medical Center due to critical injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police closed Kaumuali'i Highway for approximately 90 minutes. The investigation is ongoing.
