Amazon Suspends Partnership with 21 Air Following Fatal Crash in Miami
MIAMI — Amazon announced on Sunday that it has suspended its partnership with 21 Air after a cargo plane crash claimed five lives on September 6.
The Boeing 767, operating as Flight 7598, overshot the runway at Miami International Airport by approximately 1,300 feet, colliding with a van carrying employees of a cleaning company. All five individuals in the van were pronounced dead, and five others sustained injuries, according to authorities.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated, “We've spent time supporting the investigation and reviewing some of the surrounding circumstances,” confirming the operational pause with the North Carolina carrier. The company had been delivering packages for Amazon since 2024.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are examining the jet's ownership history, maintenance records, and weather conditions at the time of the incident. Initial flight data indicates that one pilot cautioned the other about their speed as the aircraft approached landing.
The cockpit recordings captured multiple automated warnings related to descent speed and terrain visibility. A complete transcript of the cockpit conversation will be made available later in the investigation.
The Boeing 767, built 32 years ago for passenger service, was converted to cargo use in 2015, as reported by flight-tracking service Flightradar24. The investigation is ongoing.
