Lede: TAMA COUNTY, Iowa — Authorities issued a warning about detour confusion following a near-collision incident involving a sheriff's vehicle near Clutier on October 9.
The Tama County Sheriff's Office reported that dash camera footage captured a vehicle running a stop sign on Highway E-36, narrowly avoiding a t-bone accident.
Sheriff Casey Schmidt noted, “There has been a significant increase in detour traffic since Highway 63 closed, leading to confusion for some drivers.”
The official detour routes traffic via Highways 30 and 21, but GPS devices may direct motorists onto less familiar roads.
Authorities are actively patrolling the area and urge drivers to remain vigilant for signs, intersections, and other vehicles.
