In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, a cyclist lost their life after colliding with a pickup truck in the Town of Oakland, Wisconsin. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. when the bicyclist attempted to turn onto U.S. Highway 18 from Park Road.
Initial reports indicate that the cyclist crossed into the roadway too far, resulting in a collision with the trailer of the pickup truck. The impact caused the individual to fall from the bicycle, sustaining severe injuries. Despite efforts at the scene, the person was pronounced dead.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Travis Maze, the driver of the pickup truck has been fully cooperative and remained on the site following the crash.
Authorities closed U.S. Highway 18 for several hours to facilitate the investigation, although the road has now reopened.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
