SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A dramatic chase ended with a crash and confrontation on 700 South around 10 a.m. Monday.
The driver of a Subaru crashed after being pursued by several vehicles, according to authorities. Witnesses reported seeing the driver attacked immediately following the collision.
Salt Lake Police Sgt. Greg Wilking stated the situation was perilous for bystanders due to reckless driving and actions post-crash. Initially perceived as road rage, the event is now considered part of a larger altercation that preceded the chase.
“There are several reports associated with this, and I believe we did make some arrests,” Wilking confirmed. Video from the scene shows at least one bystander attempting to intervene.
In light of the incident, Wilking advised the public on how to respond when witnessing a fight. “I would recommend not intervening. You might be putting yourself into a dangerous situation,” he said.
Instead, he suggested calling the police first and assessing personal safety before addressing the situation. Taking photos or videos could also be useful once safety is assured.
No confirmed injuries or fatalities were reported, and the investigation is ongoing. Further details about the arrests and the nature of the prior altercation have not been disclosed.
