Ogdens, Utah — Friends and family gathered on August 30, 2023, to mourn the loss of Jody Thackeray and his daughter Desiree, who died in a car accident.
The two were killed on August 25 in a three-vehicle collision on I-215 in Salt Lake City. According to authorities, the family was en route to a concert honoring Jody's late wife, who passed away one year prior.
Joseph Vigil, a survivor of the crash, said he is physically recovering and appreciates the community support. “It's really beautiful,” he remarked of the gathering. “I can't believe how many people are here, supporting us and remembering our family members.”
Friends described the Thackeray house on 27th Street as a gathering place for celebrations over the years. “My mom and dad always welcomed everyone in,” said Rebecca Vigil Perez, Jody's daughter.
Reyna Grihalva, a family friend, noted the vigil's impact. “It's amazing to see everybody here and loving and supporting… uniting together,” she said, reflecting on what the Thackerays would have wanted.
