WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A crash on I-96 early June 19 resulted in three fatalities, with indications that alcohol may have been a factor.
Tammy Morris-Robinson, 53, and Robert Robinson, 50, were killed when their vehicle was struck head-on by 24-year-old Darron Trevino, who was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes near the Marne exit at approximately 3:25 a.m., according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
This incident marks the third deadly crash in West Michigan within a four-hour period. Earlier, a young couple lost their lives on M-46 in Montcalm County due to a suspected drunk driver, while another wrong-way crash on I-196 in Grand Rapids also resulted in two fatalities.
Authorities highlighted that the investigation into the I-96 crash is ongoing, but did not specify which individuals may have been under the influence.
Emergency responders are managing the aftermath, and lane closures were enacted to allow for an investigation of the scene.
