LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A crash involving emergency vehicles disrupted the Friday morning commute on Interstate 15 heading to California.

The incident occurred at 12:36 a.m. on southbound I-15, near mile marker 7, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Authorities reported that Trooper Shawn Haggstrom was responding to an initial crash involving three sedans when a vehicle struck a Clark County Fire Department ambulance, a fire truck, and a Malibu involved in the first accident.

The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle fled the scene on foot into the desert, and authorities have not located him as of now. Five individuals were transported for medical treatment—one by Life Flight and four via ground ambulance. No fire personnel sustained injuries.

Nevada Highway Patrol, California Highway Patrol, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are actively searching for the suspect. Southbound I-15 was closed for several hours due to a significant diesel fuel spill from the fire truck as crews conducted cleanup and investigation efforts.

As of about 7:50 a.m., Highway Patrol had reopened the number 1 and 2 travel lanes, while the number 3 lane remains closed for ongoing cleanup.
