SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A 12-year-old girl was killed and another girl injured in a rollover crash involving a side-by-side vehicle near the Iron County Fairgrounds in Parowan on Friday, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when the girls, ages 12 and 13, were operating the side-by-side. Investigators with the Iron County Sheriff's Office believe the vehicle turned too wide, causing it to overturn and catch fire. Emergency responders arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
One girl managed to escape, but the second was trapped inside and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
Authorities stated that the cause of the crash is still under investigation. “This incident is a heartbreaking tragedy that has impacted the community,” they said.
Parowan school officials expressed condolences, noting that the elementary and high school communities have been “deeply shaken” by the accident. They are offering therapy resources for students, with walk-in availability from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
A GoFundMe page has been established for the victim, identifying her as Dusty Rose Dalley, who was described as an “All-American girl” with passions for baseball, horses, and dance.
Parowan Strong, a local support organization, is offering assistance to affected families during this difficult time.
