Boston, Massachusetts, man killed in fatal wrong-way crash on I-93 North Saturday night.
Authorities identified Riley Sergi, 28, of Haverhill, as the victim in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver. The incident occurred just before midnight near Exit 15A in South Boston.
Antone Carvalho, 81, of Somerset, was traveling south in the northbound lane when he struck Sergi's Chevrolet Cruze. Carvalho was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and will face court summons at a later date.
Prior to the fatal crash, a Honda Odyssey carrying a family of four also collided while attempting to avoid Carvalho's vehicle. Witness Ed Murray, who was driving with his wife and daughter, noted the close call, stating he attempted to alert Carvalho by honking his horn.
This incident marks the second fatal wrong-way crash on Massachusetts roads within three days. Authorities reported that Sheena Grandpre, 43, of Medway, was killed in a similar collision on I-290 East in Northborough on Wednesday night.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Lane closures were in effect following the collisions.
