Flight nurse dies in LifeFlight helicopter crash in Tennessee.

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A flight nurse was killed in a LifeFlight helicopter crash on Saturday in Wilson County.

Allan Williams died when the LifeFlight 1 Airbus Helicopter EC130T2 crashed on Cairo Bend Road. Two crew members, Critical Care Flight Paramedic Andrew “Andy” Sikes and the aircraft's pilot, are at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries. Their families have requested privacy.

At the time of the incident, no patient was on board. “As we grieve with Allan's family, I ask you to please join me in support of them as well as Andy, the pilot and their families,” said Jane Freedman, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Chief Health System Officer at VUMC.

Williams, who had been with VUMC for 15 years, served as a flight nurse at the Gallatin base and coordinated helicopter safety classes.

The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
