GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) — A fatal two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning left one man dead and seven children injured in Germantown, Maryland.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to the scene at the intersection of Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway around 5:30 a.m. Authorities reported that the crash involved a blue vehicle occupied by one adult male and a white vehicle containing seven children, ages 12 to 15.
The adult male was pronounced dead at the scene. The seven juveniles were transported to area hospitals for treatment, with some in critical condition. Witnesses reported that all children were in the white vehicle, with no adults present and none possessing a valid driver's license.
Fire officials confirmed that both vehicles had occupants trapped inside. Crews quickly extinguished a small fire in one vehicle and executed rescues.
As of Tuesday morning, the intersection remains closed as investigators work to reconstruct the scene. Authorities advise drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. No further details regarding the cause of the crash have been released.
