Sioux Falls Man Dies in West Lake Okoboji Boat Crash
ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa — A 64-year-old man from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was killed in a boating collision on West Lake Okoboji Sunday afternoon.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Zhong Jie Teng died from injuries sustained when a 19-foot Triton fishing boat collided with a Cobalt cabin cruiser around 1 p.m. near Lime Kiln Point.
Teng was boating with five minors at the time of the crash. He was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators reported that three minors suffered serious injuries and two sustained minor injuries. They were also taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare and Spencer Hospital. All six individuals on the Triton were wearing personal flotation devices.
No injuries were reported among the passengers aboard the Cobalt cruiser. The DNR stated that alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor, and the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
