Serious injuries reported in crash on I-95 in Newbury, police investigating
NEWBURY, Mass. —
A serious crash on Interstate 95 northbound left one person critically injured and in need of medical transport to a Boston hospital.
The incident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, involving both an SUV and a tractor-trailer, according to Newbury Fire.
The SUV driver was extricated from the vehicle and subsequently flown to a hospital; their current condition remains unknown.
All I-95 northbound lanes were closed during the medical evacuation.
Sky 5 footage captured significant damage to the front of the SUV, with debris strewn across the roadway.
The tractor-trailer was observed parked on the roadside; details regarding the truck driver's injuries are still unconfirmed.
Authorities have closed the ramp from Central Street to I-95 as the investigation continues.
One northbound lane has since reopened, but motorists are advised to avoid the area and exercise caution while traveling.
