Scarborough, Maine – A 36-year-old woman died following a significant crash on U.S. Route 1 Tuesday morning.
Authorities said first responders were dispatched to the 51 U.S. Route 1 area at 11:40 a.m., where two vehicles, a Toyota Prius and a Mercedes, were involved. The Scarborough Fire Department characterized the incident as a “high mechanism motor vehicle accident.”
According to police, Emily Doyon of Windham was driving the Toyota and turned left onto Route 1 from a business complex when her vehicle was struck by the Mercedes, operated by 25-year-old Joshua Bath of Arundel. Doyon sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Bath was treated at the scene and released, while a passenger in his vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Route 1 was closed between Route 701 and Pleasant Hill Road during the investigation, which included a reconstruction of the crash site.
It remains unclear if any charges will be filed against Bath as the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
