Lede: A head-on collision on Interstate 70 near the Utah border resulted in one fatality Monday afternoon, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:36 a.m. involving a tan Subaru Outback and a white Ford F-150 just west of Loma. Following the impact, the Subaru ignited.
Authorities confirmed the driver of the Subaru died at the scene. The Ford was carrying five occupants, including two minors, all of whom were transported to a local hospital. The Colorado State Patrol has not disclosed the extent of their injuries.
Westbound I-70 near mile marker 4 was closed due to the accident, with the lane still blocked as of 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The identity of the deceased driver will be made public by the Mesa County coroner after notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.
