OTERO COUNTY, Colo. — A Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) vehicle was involved in a crash on Highway 50 at approximately 11:03 a.m. Wednesday.
The incident occurred when Curtis O'Leary, 33, was driving a DFPC Silverado truck westbound on Highway 50. He reportedly made a left turn onto Otero County Road 10, crossing into eastbound lanes and colliding with a white Toyota Rav4.
O'Leary, an arson investigator, was not responding to a work-related incident and did not have emergency lights activated. He was transported to a nearby hospital; the extent of his injuries is currently unknown.
The driver of the Toyota Rav4, a 75-year-old man, was accompanied by a 70-year-old woman. Both were also taken to a hospital, with their injuries remaining undisclosed.
The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is leading the ongoing investigation. Highway 50 was closed in both directions for approximately two hours but has since fully reopened.
