LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville Metro Police officer, Alyssa Begel, has resigned following a suspension related to a fatal crash on April 2.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Fern Valley Road when Begel, responding to assist EMS, collided with a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Charles Briscoe. Authorities reported that Briscoe died at the scene.

Investigations revealed Begel was and did not activate her lights or sirens as she navigated through traffic. A grand jury subsequently returned a no true bill, indicating insufficient evidence for an indictment against her.

Begel had been on administrative leave prior to receiving a 30-day suspension. The Louisville Metro Police Department confirmed she resigned before serving the full suspension.
