DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WJAR) — A 74-year-old woman died after being struck by a dump truck on Route 6 in Dartmouth Monday morning.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, the incident occurred at approximately 11:54 a.m. Dartmouth police arrived to find a dump truck pulled to the roadside after colliding with the bicyclist, identified as Denise Olson of Westport. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the dump truck driver remained on-site and is cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Route 6 and Reed Road experienced partial closures as emergency response teams managed the scene. Witnesses in the area reported the intersection's history of accidents, emphasizing the need for increased driver attention.
This crash occurred near the site of a previous incident on Route 6, which resulted in two fatalities on the Dartmouth-Westport town line.
