Gouldsboro, Maine – A woman was killed in a crash involving her SUV on Route 1 on Sunday evening, according to police.
Heather Allen, 39, of Ellsworth, died at the scene after her Chevrolet Trailblazer was struck by a Subaru Crosstrek that failed to stop at a stop sign on Old Route 1 at approximately 6:55 p.m., Maine State Police reported.
The impact caused Allen's vehicle to spin into oncoming traffic, where it was subsequently hit by a third vehicle and rolled over. A passenger in Allen's SUV and the drivers of the other two vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Route 1 was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the incident. It remains unclear whether charges will be filed.
Gouldsboro is a town in Down East Maine, located across Frenchman Bay from Bar Harbor.
