VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A head-on collision late Friday night resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office (VBCSO), the crash occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. when an SUV traveling west on M-43 at 46th Street crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with another SUV.
The deceased, a 37-year-old woman from Lawrence, was driving the westbound vehicle. Authorities identified her passenger as a 27-year-old Lawrence woman. The second SUV was driven by an 18-year-old Kalamazoo man, who was accompanied by an 18-year-old female passenger from White Pigeon.
All three individuals in the second SUV sustained serious injuries, according to deputies. Emergency responders closed M-43 for approximately four hours to manage the incident.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities believe that heavy rain from earlier that night may have contributed to reduced visibility, which could have led to the crash.
