Wilmington Man Sentenced to 59 Years for Fatal Minivan Crash
WILMINGTON, DE—On October 4, 2023, a Wilmington man was sentenced to 59 years in prison following a crash that resulted in the deaths of a mother and one of her five children.
The incident occurred on January 15, 2023, when the defendant collided with a minivan on Route 202. The crash ejected several occupants from the vehicle, leading to severe injuries. Emergency responders from the Wilmington Fire Department and New Castle County EMS were dispatched to the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the collision killed a 36-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter. Four other children in the minivan sustained injuries, with two requiring hospital treatment.
Witnesses reported that the minivan was traveling in a designated lane when the defendant's vehicle struck it at high speed. Lane closures were instituted during the investigation, which has now concluded, according to the Delaware State Police.
