Several Injured in Crash at St. Luke's Catholic School in Ankeny.

ANKENY, Iowa — Nine students were after a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Ankeny Police Sgt. Trevor McGraw, the incident occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. in the school's pickup line when a vehicle drove over a curb, hitting several students waiting there. The students were transported to local hospitals, with patients being treated at Blank Children's Hospital and MercyOne. Updates on their conditions have not been provided, but parents of affected students have been informed.

The crash took place during dismissal when many students and parents were present, McGraw noted. The driver remained at the scene and was not injured; authorities do not suspect the incident was intentional, though an investigation is ongoing.

Parents in the pickup line quickly assisted injured students. “A lot of parents stepped up and were helping stabilize injuries,” McGraw said.

Emergency crews, including ambulances, fire trucks, and police, responded swiftly. School staff supported students, and some remained on site for after-school programs.

Following the incident, the school confirmed on its website that adjusted pickup procedures have been implemented for safety. In a message, school officials emphasized the importance of family and staff safety during this time and requested prayers for those affected.

Authorities urge the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency operations. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

This is a developing story.
