PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (Oct. 7, 2023) — Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, 24, and two former teammates were killed in a three-car crash early Saturday morning, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on a local roadway. Jackson and Isaiah Hazel, 23, died at the scene, while Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24, was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after.
Maryland State Police reported that the three were traveling in a Dodge Charger when it was struck by another vehicle allegedly speeding and changing lanes. Witnesses stated the Charger veered off the road and hit multiple tree stumps. No injuries were reported from the other vehicles involved.
Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The Vikings released a statement expressing their devastation over the loss. General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah remarked on Jackson's resilience and aspirations. Head Coach Kevin O'Connell emphasized Jackson's positive energy and impact on the team.
Jackson, a fourth-round draft pick in April, had previously played at Alabama and later at Oregon. Hazel played college football at Maryland and Charlotte, while Lytton competed at Florida State and Penn State. The three were high school teammates and won a state championship together at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School.
Further details on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
