CLEARFIELD, Utah (KUTV) — A driver lost consciousness and crashed into a tree in Clearfield on Thursday around 2:45 p.m., Utah Transit Authority officials confirmed.

The incident took place near 1500 E. 925 South. Authorities reported that while the driver sustained injuries requiring medical evaluation, no passengers were harmed. The bus suffered significant damage and was subsequently towed from the scene.

Witnesses described hearing a loud noise, initially thinking it was a minor accident. “Then, we see the fence scattered across the entire road,” said Jasmyn Ashby, who rushed to assist. “I looked up and saw the bus in the tree.”

Nearby resident Jonithan Shaffer expressed relief that his children were indoors during the incident. “If this tree wasn't here, it probably would have gone through my front yard,” he said after reviewing his doorbell camera footage.

Clearfield city crews responded shortly after the crash, removing debris and addressing the damage caused by the incident.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
