Two U.S. Officials Killed in Mexico Accident

Chihuahua, Mexico — Two U.S. embassy officials died in a car accident on Sunday while returning from a drug raid in Morelos.

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle crashed on the Chihuahua–Ciudad Juárez highway. Two Mexican officials from Chihuahua's State Investigation Agency (AEI) were also killed in the incident.

The exact circumstances of the crash are under investigation. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, but details on injuries or additional medical aid have not been reported.

According to the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, the officials' deaths underscore the risks faced by personnel working to protect communities on both sides of the border.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum noted her government was unaware of any direct collaboration between state officials and the U.S. embassy, stating that such operations require federal authorization.

Witnesses reported that the officials were involved in expanded counternarcotics operations under the CIA, which has intensified efforts against drug cartels in recent years.

The CIA has yet to comment on the incident as the investigation continues.
