NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — A woman has been charged with hit-and-run and reckless vehicular homicide following a fatal incident on Rivers Avenue on [insert date], according to authorities.
Lovato Guerrero was arrested after a collision that resulted in a death. She is charged with hit-and-run with death and reckless vehicular homicide. The magistrate granted bail for the homicide charge but denied it for hit-and-run; she remains in custody at the Charleston County Jail.
The incident took place on Rivers Avenue, also known as Highway 52, a busy six-lane road that runs between Hanahan Road and Tipston Street. Eagle Drive intersects Rivers Avenue, providing access to nearby residential buildings, two of which are adjacent to the roadway.
Witnesses reported that similar circumstances occurred involving a toddler named Haisha, who previously wandered into the street on August 25. On that occasion, a passerby rescued her from traffic, and emergency responders confirmed she was uninjured. Her biological mother stated that Haisha had left the apartment while she went to the bathroom.
Authorities also noted that no arrests were made regarding the August incident, as investigations continue. In 2024, five children were killed in South Carolina after being struck by vehicles, with only one incident occurring on a roadway, according to a report by the State Law Enforcement Division.
