NEW YORK (TNND) — Two men were killed and three others seriously injured in a collision involving a suspected drunk driver in Manhattan on Friday evening.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the incident occurred around 7 p.m. near West 109 Street and Amsterdam Avenue, where a 61-year-old driver identified as Elvin Suarez crashed into several parked cars before jumping a curb and hitting people outside a barbershop.

Authorities confirmed that two men, aged 35 and 46, were at the scene. Three additional victims, aged 36, 44, and 51, were transported to nearby hospitals in critical condition.

Witnesses reported chaotic scenes, with community members rushing to assist victims. One witness described the event as a “horror show,” stating that one individual appeared to be pinned under the vehicle.

Suarez was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a blood alcohol test. He faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, vehicular assault, and driving while intoxicated.

The NYPD is conducting a collision investigation and has urged drivers to avoid the area. The investigation remains ongoing.
