LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – Two fatalities were reported in a on Alabama Highway 169, occurring on June 12, 2026.

According to Alabama State Troopers, 80-year-old William C. Smith Jr. of Salem was driving a vehicle that collided with another operated by 32-year-old Sir Steven Christopher Bush Jr. of Opelika. The crash transpired at approximately 10:47 a.m. near the intersection of Alabama Highway 169 and Lee County Road 140, about seven miles north of Opelika.

Authorities confirmed that Smith and a passenger in his vehicle, 47-year-old Ginger Nicole Smith McConnell of Salem, were both killed in the incident. Bush sustained injuries and was transported to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika for medical treatment.
