PITT COUNTY, NC — A car accident last week claimed the life of a 16-year-old high school student.
Elisha Barrett, a junior at North Pitt High School, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24. According to authorities, the car was traveling west on Sweet Gum Grove Church Road near Staton Mill Road when it veered off the road to the right.
The driver, another teenager, reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times. Barrett died at the scene, while the driver was ejected but survived.
Troopers noted that additional information will be released if charges are filed against the driver.
