Tractor-Trailer Crash Causes Lane Closure and Power Outage on Highway 17
A tractor-trailer crash on Highway 17 near the Little Swift Creek bridge resulted in a temporary lane closure and power outage on Thursday, September 18.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 8:17 a.m. when 68-year-old Dennis Williams of Raleigh drove off the road, striking several utility poles before entering the swamp water. Williams was not injured but has been charged with failure to maintain lane control.
The collision prompted the closure of one northbound lane near Ernul Brick Road, which has since reopened, according to DriveNC. Duke Energy reported that customers in the area experienced power outages for several hours as crews worked to repair the damaged lines.
Emergency responders were on the scene, but no further injuries were reported. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
