Tiger Woods Steps Away from Golf Following DUI Charges in Florida

JUPITER ISLAND, FL—Tiger Woods announced today he is stepping away from golf to seek treatment following his recent crash.

Woods, 50, released a statement emphasizing the importance of focusing on his health as he addresses legal issues stemming from the incident. According to authorities, Woods faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to submit to a urinalysis.

In his statement, Woods expressed the need to prioritize his well-being and ensure a lasting recovery. “I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time,” he said.

In Martin County Circuit Court, attorney Douglas Duncan submitted a not-guilty plea on behalf of Woods, who did not attend the hearing. Duncan also requested a jury trial. Woods waived his arraignment, originally scheduled for April 23.

The crash occurred when Woods reportedly looked at his cellphone and changed the radio station, leading his Land Rover to collide with a truck hauling a trailer. Witnesses reported that Woods was “sweating profusely” and exhibiting signs of impairment during the subsequent police interview.

A breathalyzer test indicated no alcohol in Woods' system; however, he refused a urinalysis. Authorities found hydrocodone pills in his pants pocket, aligning with his history of prescription medication use.

The PGA Tour released a statement affirming their support for Woods as he navigates this difficult period, emphasizing his impact beyond just his achievements in golf.
