Three Ohio Airmen Killed in Iraq Tanker Crash Will Be Laid to Rest.

Columbus, Ohio — April 2, 2026 — The remains of three Rickenbacker airmen killed in a KC-135 crash in Iraq have returned to Ohio.

According to the Ohio National Guard, the fallen are Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons, 28; Capt. Seth Koval, 38; and Capt. Curtis Angst, 30, all of the 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base.

Authorities said the KC-135 crashed March 12 over western Iraq during a mission in support of Operation Epic Fury.

A dignified transfer occurred March 18 at Dover Air Force Base, attended by President Donald Trump, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to officials.

The remains returned to Rickenbacker on March 29 and were escorted by procession to funeral homes, authorities said.

According to family announcements, Simmons will be laid to rest April 10 at First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Road, Columbus. Visitation is 9–10:30 a.m.; service is 11 a.m.

Koval's service will be private and not publicly announced, according to his obituary. The family requested privacy.

The family said Angst's burial with full military honors is scheduled April 3 at Dayton National Cemetery, limited to family, close friends and military members. A celebration of life will follow 2–6 p.m. at the Roberts Centre, 123 Gano Road, Wilmington.
