ROQUE BLUFFS, Maine — A temporary barrier was installed at a boat ramp following the discovery of three bodies in a submerged vehicle early Sunday morning.
Sharon Bukulmez, 61, of Mount Desert, was last seen at 8:30 p.m. Saturday after leaving a family wedding in Jonesboro with her grandchildren, Kinsley Grubb, 5, and Sawyer Grubb, 3, according to the Maine State Police.
Authorities reported that Bukulmez and the children did not arrive in Machias as anticipated. Bar Harbor police tracked the last known location of Bukulmez's cellphone, leading them to the boat ramp at Schoppee Point Road in Roque Bluffs.
At approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, Bukulmez's vehicle was located submerged in Pond Cove, with all three bodies recovered shortly thereafter. Police have indicated that their deaths are not considered suspicious.
Reports indicate that the Town of Roque Bluffs is implementing measures to increase safety at the ramp. A temporary barrier has been erected, with plans for a permanent gate to be installed by the end of the week.
In 2013, a fatal incident at the same boat ramp prompted the installation of warning signs, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding safety in the area.
Emergency response was coordinated by local law enforcement and medical teams. The investigation remains open, and further updates will be provided as new information arises.
