ROWAN COUNTY, KY (LEX News) — A crash on Cristy Creek Road in Morehead last week sent a mother and her two daughters to the hospital.

Amber Hamm was returning home after her birthday celebration when the incident occurred. “As soon as I turned up that road, I saw headlights coming right at me,” Hamm said. Emergency responders her daughter, Sophia Taulbee, to UK Children's Hospital in Lexington.

Sophia, a 15-year-old Rowan County High School freshman, is recovering from a fractured skull and leg infections, having undergone multiple surgeries. According to Hamm, Sophia is determined to recover, saying, “She wants to be up. She wants to be talking.”

While one daughter is temporarily staying with a neighbor, Hamm remains focused on Sophia's progress. Her employer, Rowan County Middle School, has provided substantial support during this challenging time. “It's amazing… they're making sure that I'm taken care of,” Hamm stated.

Community members continue to check in on the family, offering encouragement as they navigate this difficult journey. Doctors have not provided a timeline for when Sophia will return home.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Hamm with medical expenses during her daughter's recovery. For more information, visit Fundraiser for Amber Hamm.
