Fatal SUV-Truck Collision Under Investigation in York County
YORK COUNTY, NE — Authorities are investigating a fatal collision between an SUV and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad train early Wednesday morning.
According to the York County Sheriff's Office, emergency communications received a report from BNSF at approximately 4:20 a.m. regarding the incident. Investigators indicate that a southbound SUV on Highway 81 left the roadway near mile marker 63 and came to rest on the railroad tracks.
The vehicle was subsequently struck by an eastbound BNSF locomotive. Responding deputies and officers from the York Police Department found the driver deceased at the scene. No injuries were reported among the train crew.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending identification and notification of family members. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
