A five-vehicle crash on SR 37 near Blacks Road killed one person around 6:34 a.m. Wednesday in Union Township, troopers said.
According to the Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a chain-reaction rear-end collision began among southbound vehicles, and a northbound Mack truck struck a vehicle pushed into the northbound lane.
Authorities said James Jones, 55, of Newark, who was driving a Toyota Tundra, died after being taken to Licking Memorial Hospital. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt.
Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries: the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado, the Mack truck driver, and a passenger in a Ram 4500, according to troopers.
Emergency responders included the Licking County Sheriff's Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Granville Fire Department, West Licking Joint Fire District, and Heath Fire Department. Jae's Towing and Recovery handled vehicle tows.
The State Highway Patrol said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
