Sioux Falls Woman Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Motorcycle Collision Near Sturgis.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, S.D. — A Sioux Falls woman died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash near Sturgis Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 1:06 p.m. on August 6, on U.S. Highway 14A at mile marker 50, approximately 2 miles south of Sturgis. Eastbound lanes were closed for about one hour.

According to preliminary information, a 46-year-old Sioux Falls woman was operating a 2013 Suzuki Gladius 650 eastbound while a 77-year-old man from Wrentham, Massachusetts, was driving a 2013 Victory Jackpot westbound. Witnesses reported that the Victory driver failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with the Suzuki.

The Suzuki driver, who was wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries. The Victory driver, also helmeted, was transported to a Sturgis hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Names of the involved parties have not been released pending family notifications. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and all information provided is preliminary.
