MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A 48-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly firing multiple gunshots during a confrontation at a Boy Scout camp.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. behind Jonathan Dickinson State Park's Boy Scout Camp on Country Club Drive. According to authorities, Douglas Bunker and four others attempted to fish at the camp to honor Bunker's nephew, who had died in a recent crash.

A park ranger found the group and asked them to leave. Witnesses reported that as most of the group complied, Bunker argued with the ranger before brandishing a 9 mm handgun and firing four to five shots.

Bunker's friend notified law enforcement upon hearing the gunfire. The sheriff stated that Bunker's 9-year-old son was present in the ranger's truck during the incident.

After leaving the scene, Bunker returned to his mother's home in Tequesta. Authorities attempted to reach him by phone over 70 times but were unsuccessful. Eventually, his mother interacted with deputies to serve as a negotiator.

Bunker reportedly refused to cooperate, demanding officers arrest him inside the home. Due to this, the SWAT team was called in, and Bunker was taken into custody without further incident.

The incident comes amid a rise in traffic fatalities in Martin County, with four deaths reported in 12 days, including Bunker's nephew, who died in a high-speed crash on Highway 710.
