OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Authorities confirm a 17-year-old girl from Choctaw has died following injuries from a July crash on I-40.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. on July 24, when Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers responded to a serious injury crash on westbound I-40, east of Reno Avenue.
According to investigators, a red Toyota sedan, driven by 18-year-old Jeremiah Miles, was speeding when he lost control while attempting to pass a semi-truck. The vehicle struck both the truck and a concrete barrier wall, causing the barrier to shift into eastbound lanes, which led to additional accidents.
The Toyota then rolled onto its roof and caught fire, severely injuring both Miles and his passenger, the 17-year-old girl. Both were transported to an Oklahoma City hospital with critical injuries.
On October 9, the teenager succumbed to her injuries. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
