Serious crash injures Cadiz officer, driver in Indiana incident.

SHIRLEY, Ind. (WISH) — A serious crash involving a Cadiz Police Department officer occurred Sunday morning on State Road 38 at Mechanicsburg Road.

At approximately 6:50 a.m., emergency personnel responded to reports of a collision involving a marked police vehicle. Authorities said that Officer Douglas Barker Jr. was outside his vehicle, which had been stopped on the roadside for unknown reasons, when a 2019 Toyota RAV4, driven by 44-year-old Amanda Bailey of New Castle, struck the police vehicle from behind.

Officer Barker sustained serious injuries and was to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he is now in stable condition. Bailey was to Ball Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Road 38 was closed for about four hours as investigators processed the scene and removed the vehicles and debris. The incident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
