North Carolina State Highway Patrol says it investigated a crash on Monday, involving a vehicle pursued by the Maysville police department on Highway 58 South
The Maysville Town Manager says officers first responded to a call about careless and reckless driving. During the investigation, they determined the vehicle had been stolen, leading to the pursuit.
Troopers say just before the crash, the passenger vehicle was driving recklessly on Highway 58 and abruptly slammed on its brakes, causing the collision with the pursuing police vehicle in Carteret county near old church
No injuries were reported for Maysville Police officers. The driver of the passenger vehicle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to Carteret Health for treatment.
Charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle involved in the pursuit.
