KEA'AU, Hawaii (Island News) – A fatal hit-and-run pedestrian incident occurred late Friday night, May 15, 2026, on Hwy 130.
The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to the scene at approximately 10:50 p.m., where an unidentified man was found lying in the roadway. Authorities reported that he was struck multiple times by unknown vehicles that left the scene in an unspecified direction.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead at 11:03 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death, with his identity being withheld pending positive identification and notification of family.
This incident marks the third traffic fatality in Hawaii within a 12-hour period on Friday and the 12th traffic fatality on Hawaii Island for 2026, matching the total fatalities recorded at the same time last year.
