VOLCANO, HAWAII — A head-on collision on Highway 11 resulted in the death of 76-year-old Laura Walker of Volcano on Monday afternoon.
Authorities reported the crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m. when a 2007 Honda CR-V, traveling north toward Hilo, crossed the centerline and collided with a silver 2017 Dodge Ram heading toward Volcano. The Dodge Ram was driven by a 60-year-old man from Volcano, who sustained no injuries.
Emergency responders pronounced Walker dead at the scene at 2:50 p.m. Police stated that they do not believe speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the incident.
This collision marks the Big Island's 19th traffic fatality of 2026, up from 14 during the same period last year.
