RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. — A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning on Interstate 55 South.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), the incident occurred at approximately 12:08 a.m. near Interstate 20 West. A vehicle traveling southbound collided with 53-year-old Ernest Stevenson of Vicksburg as he was crossing the roadway.
Authorities reported that the driver fled the scene after the crash. Stevenson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on-site.
The MHP is currently investigating the incident.
