CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (TNND) — A deputy saved a woman's life after her vehicle crashed and overturned on Interstate 77 on May 23.

Deputy Daniel Threatt of the Chester County Sheriff's Office was the first responder at the scene of a accident. He found the driver trapped inside an overturned that was partially on fire.

According to the sheriff's office, Deputy Threatt acted immediately, risking his safety to pull the driver from the burning . Additional responders quickly arrived to extinguish the fire and provide medical assistance.

Authorities later confirmed that the driver, identified as Carletta Bush, was on her way to Charlotte to celebrate completing radiation treatment for breast cancer. Body camera footage showed Threatt searching for a way to reach her. Unable to access the door due to significant damage, he broke a window and freed her.

“I called out to her, and she said she was stuck in the seat belt,” Threatt said. “This car could blow up at any moment.”

Bush later described Threatt as her “guardian angel,” stating, “Nobody came to save me.”

Deputy Threatt met with Bush during her recovery at the hospital and emphasized the role of faith during the incident. “I've got to give all glory to God,” he said. “This was probably the coolest thing I've done in my career.”
