MATAWAN – Authorities are investigating a fatal collision involving a taxi and a pedestrian that occurred on March 18, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene at Railroad Plaza and Johnson Street around 6:20 a.m., where they found the pedestrian, identified as Osvaldo Dantas, 62, in critical condition.
Dantas was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a local hospital. The taxi reportedly ran off the road before the incident.
Both lanes of Johnson Street were temporarily closed during the investigation and cleanup, which involved the MATAWAN Police Department and the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
